Everything you need to know about planning your Tanzania safari, Kilimanjaro trek, or Zanzibar escape.

General Questions

Who is Vista Treks & Safaris?

Vista Treks & Safaris is a Tanzania-based, locally owned travel company specializing in tailor-made wildlife safaris, Mount Kilimanjaro treks, Zanzibar holidays and cultural experiences across Tanzania.

Where are you based?

We are based in Arusha, Tanzania, the traditional gateway city to the northern safari circuit and Mount Kilimanjaro.

Can you create a fully custom itinerary?

Yes, every itinerary we build can be tailored to your travel dates, interests, budget and pace. Our published packages are starting points, not fixed templates.

Can I combine a safari, Kilimanjaro and Zanzibar in one trip?

Absolutely. This is one of our most popular requests. We regularly design combined itineraries covering wildlife safaris, a Kilimanjaro climb and a Zanzibar beach stay.

How far in advance should I book?

We recommend booking 3 to 6 months in advance, especially for travel during peak season (June to October) or if you have specific lodges or Kilimanjaro routes in mind.

Do you only work with international travelers?

No, we welcome travelers from anywhere in the world, as well as local and regional visitors exploring Tanzania.

Safari & Wildlife

What is the best time for a Tanzania safari?

June to October offers the driest conditions and best overall wildlife viewing, while January to March is ideal for witnessing the wildebeest calving season in the southern Serengeti.

Will I see the Big Five?

Tanzania is one of the most reliable places in Africa to see all of the Big Five, particularly when combining Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater, though sightings of any wild animal can never be fully guaranteed.

When can I see the Great Migration?

The migration moves through the Serengeti ecosystem year-round. River crossings in the north are most likely between July and October, while calving season in the south peaks around January to March.

What type of vehicle is used for game drives?

We use private 4x4 safari vehicles with pop-up roofs, allowing unobstructed views and photography during game drives.

Are safaris private or shared with strangers?

Our safaris are private, meaning you travel with your own vehicle, guide and itinerary rather than joining a shared group with other travelers.

What should I pack for a safari?

Neutral-colored clothing, layers for cool mornings, a hat, sunscreen, binoculars and a camera are recommended. We send a detailed packing list once your safari is confirmed.

Kilimanjaro Trekking

Which Kilimanjaro route should I choose?

It depends on your priorities: Lemosho and Machame offer excellent scenery and acclimatization, Marangu is the only route with hut accommodation, and Rongai offers a quieter northern approach.

Do I need prior climbing experience?

No technical climbing skill is required on the standard trekking routes. Good general fitness and proper acclimatization matter far more than prior mountaineering experience.

Do I need crampons?

Crampons are only sometimes required, depending on route, season and current mountain conditions. Please ask our trekking team before purchasing or packing them.

How many days should I allow for the climb?

Most treks range from 6 to 10 days. Longer itineraries generally allow better acclimatization and higher summit success rates.

What is included in a Kilimanjaro package?

Our packages include a professional mountain guide, porters, park fees, camping or hut fees, meals during the trek and a summit certificate. See each route page for full details.

Can I rent trekking gear in Tanzania?

Yes, items such as sleeping bags, hiking poles and warm jackets can often be rented locally in Moshi or Arusha. Ask our team for recommendations when planning your trek.

Zanzibar Holidays

Which part of Zanzibar is best for my holiday?

It depends on your preference: Nungwi and Kendwa in the north offer lively beach bars and swimmable beaches at all tide levels, while the southeast coast offers a quieter, more relaxed atmosphere.

Is Zanzibar suitable for families?

Yes, Zanzibar's calm waters and range of family-friendly accommodation make it a popular choice for families, couples, friends and solo travelers alike.

How do I get from the safari circuit to Zanzibar?

A short flight of around one to one and a half hours connects northern Tanzania safari airstrips or Kilimanjaro Airport directly to Zanzibar.

What is the best time of year for a Zanzibar beach holiday?

Zanzibar can be enjoyed year-round, though June to October and December to February offer the driest, sunniest conditions.

Can I add activities like snorkeling or diving?

Absolutely. Snorkeling, diving, dhow cruises, spice farm tours and Stone Town walking tours can all be added to your Zanzibar itinerary.

Booking & Payment

How do I make a booking?

Submit an enquiry through our website, WhatsApp, phone or email with your travel dates and interests. Our team will respond with a tailored itinerary and quotation.

Is a deposit required?

Yes, a deposit is typically required to confirm a booking, with the remaining balance due before the start of your trip. Exact terms are confirmed with your itinerary.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept bank transfer and other methods communicated at the time of booking. Payment details are shared once your itinerary and dates are confirmed.

What is your cancellation policy?

Cancellation terms depend on the services booked, as many lodges, camps and Kilimanjaro operations apply their own policies. Applicable terms are shared before you confirm your booking.

Do you recommend travel insurance?

Yes, we strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance covering medical expenses, emergency evacuation, trip cancellation and, for trekkers, high-altitude activities.

Travel Requirements & Preparation

Do I need a visa to visit Tanzania?

Most visitors require a visa, which can typically be obtained on arrival or in advance online. We recommend checking current requirements for your nationality before you travel.

Do I need any vaccinations?

Requirements vary by nationality and travel history. We recommend consulting a travel health professional or clinic well before your trip for personalized advice.

Is Tanzania safe for tourists?

Yes, Tanzania is a popular and generally safe destination for travelers. Our guides are experienced professionals who prioritize your safety throughout every safari, trek or coastal stay.

What currency should I bring?

The Tanzanian Shilling is the local currency, though US Dollars are widely accepted for tourism services. We can advise on the best approach for your specific trip.

Our guides are fluent in English and Swahili, with some also speaking additional languages. Let us know if you have specific language requirements.
